There is a new feature in the NPSP in the latest release - something called New “Sustainer” field on Accounts and Contacts for Recurring Donors
The new “Sustainer” field indicates if an Account or Contact is an active, lapsed, or former recurring donor.
To use this field up you need to change field level security and add to page layouts for Accounts and Contacts.
When we did this for Moira Kelly Creating Hope Foundation we renamed the field "Recurring Donor Status" using Translation Workbench Override and added it to the Compact Header on the Contact Page Layout.
